Dr. Harry D. Danforth, Director, Government Relations and Licensing, brings a unique perspective through his 32 years of service with the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), as Research Scientist, Technology Transfer Coordinator and Senior Executive Service Administrator in planning, conducting, coordinating and administrating transfer of research technologies to the private sector.

Dr. Danforth established over 200 technology transfer agreements with funding of over $40 million, which led to licensed technology and the formation of companies that had pre-capitalization and equity funding of over $95 million.

While in Senior Executive Service at ARS as the Associate Director, Mid-West Area, he worked alongside the Area Director to provide leadership to 1400 employees; planning, coordinating and evaluating 36 diverse research programs in plant, animal, and environmental sciences, with a total operating budget of $140 million.

As Technology Transfer Coordinator at the ARS, Dr. Harry Danforth provided leadership and oversight for all technology transfer activities of over 400 research scientists. He established effective partnerships between scientists and cooperators, negotiated specific Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADA’s), and evaluated research results for patentability and license of intellectual property.

He is experienced in initiating, developing and maintaining successful networking coalitions and formal agreements with growers, producers, commodity associations, private industries, State and local economic development commissions, universities, non-profit research institutes, and other government agencies at the national and international level.

Dr. Danforth authored over 240 scientific publications, book chapters, symposia reviews, abstracts, popular articles and patents, and established himself as a nationally and internationally recognized expert in animal parasitic diseases.

Dr. Harry Danforth completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois, and his MS and PhD degrees at Utah State University, followed by a post-doctoral appointment at the University of Georgia.
